Alison speaking to mums Lauren and Tiffany

Have you ever thought about how teenage mums really feel?

By Alison Simcock
‘Asbos, binge drinking, unruly behaviour’. These are just some of the words used to describe today’s teenagers. So is it any wonder that teenage parents are considered to be irresponsible, lazy and spongers from society?

In the early 1900's, it was very common for teenagers to get married and have children before they reached their twentieth birthday. But nowadays, this is no longer the case.

The number of young people getting married is decreasing and the number of single teens becoming pregnant is rising. In fact, in North Staffordshire, we have one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Britain, with 40% of all teenage girls not in any form of training or employment being young parents.

Does this prove that teenagers get pregnant at an early age to escape the commitment of working for a living or to receive extra benefits? I interviewed two young ladies who had conceived at a young age but in very different circumstances. Find out exactly what they had to say.
