“The measure of life is not its duration, but its donation”, so sayeth former U.S. Senate chaplain Peter Marshall. With all the recent high profile charity campaigns in the world, are people growing tired of giving, and instead now concentrating on living?! One look at charity fundraising events taking place locally would suggest that the age old walkathon and a man sat in beans for 10 hours have been replaced by sponsored events such as all night cosmic bowling challenges, haunted house sleep-overs, and, rather bizarrely, moustache growing contests. So how is fundraising changing? What would you make you give your cash? I spoke to everyone from the people who organise events, to the dare-devil's willing to walk across hot coals for the right cause! |
