Cannock Chase

Something strange is stirring in the forest!

By Bev Holden
If you go down to the woods today you may certainly have a big surprise! Birches Valley is the site ... not for teddy bears, but for works of art by local artists.

Susan Walker knows exactly why Cannock Chase has been invaded by pods, balls and 60ft women!

In an innovative move, artists from the midlands have created a community arts trail “route to health” in the heart of Cannock Chase. The trail is designed to create an enjoyable walk that is suitable for all levels of fitness. And both permanent and temporary art works related to health are placed around the trail.

The trail has been visited by thousands of people both from within the region and beyond. Placing art works outside of the traditional gallery space is one way in which artists are beginning to make their work more accessible.

What do you think? Does art belong outside or should it remain in galleries?
