Why do they do it? Referees ... they run their socks off and for what? Well, apparently, there is a funny side ...

Why would anyone want to become a referee? Well as an ex-player myself, refereeing was the next best thing to playing. It meant I could still be in the thick of it on the pitch.

As a referee you're still very much part of the game. But it's not an easy job!

You have to be firm and lay down the law. Imagine trying to convince someone who's  angry, been tripped up and has a bloody nose to calm down. Refereeing certainly brings out the diplomat in you!
