Grandstand's 1950s format made the most of the BBC's new camera technology

David Coleman hosts the show in 1959 - by then he was the face of Grandstand
Presenter Frank Bough with legendary singer Harry "Bing" Crosby on the set in 1975
Des Lynam made his Grandstand debut in 1979, and complete with flares and crazy collars
Helen Rollason was the show's first female anchor in 1990, followed by Sue Barker in 1994
From 1958 to the present - all the presenters get together for the show's 40th anniversary
