Fifth seed Guillermo Coria was beaten in straight sets by Cyril Saulnier as he struggled with a stomach strain picked up at the recent Heineken Open.
Saulnier, ranked 76th in the world, ran away with the match after taking a close first-set tie-break.
Coria made his opponent work for the victory, but eventually succumbed 7-6 (9/7) 6-2 6-4.
Frenchman Saulnier will next play Moroccan Hicham Arazi, who beat Oliver Mutis in his first-round match.
