A late try by Edinburgh's Joel Brannigan deprived Glasgow of the win they needed to make sure of a Heineken Cup berth next season.
The visitors had led through tries by Dan Parks and Sam Pinder, with Parks kicking two conversions and a penalty.
But Andrew Dall's first-half try for Edinburgh was followed by Marcus di Rollo's score in the second half.
Brannigan's late try and two successful conversions by Ally Warnock proved decisive for the home side.
The opening exchanges were predictably untidy as both teams struggled to
establish early momentum.
The match burst into action with two tries in a hectic three-minute spell.
Glasgow drew first blood with a solo score from the sidestepping Pinder, who
provided halfback partner Dan Parks with a simple conversion.
Edinburgh hit back promptly thanks mainly to breakaway forward Andy Dall.
His thrust set up a penalty, which Warnock hoofed to touch seven metres out.
They then embarked on a well-controlled rolling maul which was unstoppable once it began moving - and Dall was the man who ploughed through.
Warnock missed the conversion and then was wide with a penalty attempt moment
before the interval.
Glasgow had the better of the exchanges as time wore on and they earned more
breathing space.
Pinder's chip into the danger zone created panic among the Edinburgh back ranks
and they were forced to give away a penalty, which Parks goaled but he missed a
further chance from longer range.
Then the game livened up again with two more tries in quickfire order. Parks was back in the spotlight to convert his own interception effort after Simon Webster was trapped in possession.
Then Edinburgh blew the contest wide open again when Marcus di Rollo finished
off a move featuring Ally Kellock and Tom Philip. Warnock kicked the extras and
repeated the feat after Brannigan's late try.
