Jonah Lomu admitted he was delighted after his first competitive match in almost three years.
He came through unscathed after playing for an hour in the 25-10 Heineken Cup win against Calvisano.
"I'm just so pleased to have come through the game and be part of a winning team," said the New Zealander.
"It was great just to be out there playing a sport that I love. It's a privilege to be out there especially after everything I've been through."
The 30-year-old has recovered from a kidney transplant and is targeting a return to the All Blacks squad in time for the 2007 World Cup.
"Physically I feel fine and I enjoyed taking the bumps and being involved in a tough game of rugby," he added.
"There was no premeditated plan to come off after an hour but obviously the coaches have their plans and they stick to them.
