Leicester treated new coach Marcelo Loffreda to a perfect home debut thanks to a five-try rout against Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup at Welford Road.

Andy Goode touched down for the first of his 19 points on five minutes before Tom Varndell's try 10 minutes later.

A Geordan Murphy score extended the lead just before half-time and the Tigers secured a bonus point with a penalty try just after the interval.

Martin Corry added a late try in injury time on his 250th club appearance.

The victory gave the Tigers a much-needed confidence boost after their 22-9 defeat at Leinster the previous Saturday.

Loffreda was boosted by the return of England backs Dan Hipkiss and Varndell, along with second row Marco Wentzel and tight-head prop Martin Castrogiovanni.

Goode was at the heart of Leicester's best moves and the fly-half became the club's all-time leading competition point scorer with a penalty on eight minutes, overtaking Tim Stimpson's previous mark of 358 points.

And there were more landmarks to follow when Murphy's touch down saw him equal Leon Lloyd's club record of 19 tries in European rugby.

Things went from bad to worse for Andy Robinson's Edinburgh side when lock Craig Hamilton was shown the yellow card on 50 minutes for pulling down in the line-out.

And the forward was soon joined by prop Allan Jacobsen, making his record 43rd appearance in the competition for Edinburgh, in the sin-bin three minutes later.

And Corry's late try made it an afternoon to forget for former England coach Robinson.
