Former Great Britain half-back Tony Smith has joined the coaching staff at Wakefield after confirming his retirement as a player.
The 33-year-old scrum-half has not played since breaking his leg in Hull's 10-10 draw at Leeds in May.
Smith, who has also played for Castleford and Wigan, had not been offered a new contract at the KC Stadium.
He will fill the vacancy at Belle Vue left by the departure of player-coach Adrian Vowles.
Wakefield's head coach Shane McNally said Smith, who represented England in the 2000 World Cup, would bring a lot of playing experience to the club.
"He has impressed me with his enthusiasm, personality and attitude towards coaching and I am looking forward to working closely with him over the next two years," he said.
