North Queensland prop Willie Mason has claimed Huddersfield and Hull KR are foremost among several Super League clubs chasing his signature.

The former Australia forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season, says he wants a new challenge.

The 30-year-old told the Hull Daily Mail: "I have nothing left to achieve in Australia and I want to give the Super League a go.

"You could say it's now a two-horse race between Hull KR and Huddersfield."

Bradford, Salford and Catalans are also thought to have enquired about signing Mason, who says he wants to experience the different style of rugby on offer in England.

I don't want to go to a side that are going to lose by 30 or 40 points on a regular basis. I want to go to a well established club that has a fair crack at winning the title

"The standard of rugby in England is getting better year by year and I feel now is the perfect time to go.

"I don't want to go to a side that are going to lose by 30 or 40 points on a regular basis. I want to go to a well established club that has a fair crack at winning the title."

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan has already confirmed his interest in Mason.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "I imagine he would have a number of other clubs interested, but there has been an expression of interest between the two clubs."

"I think we could certainly find a decent spot for Willie in our side if he decided to pursue a career with us."
