Sinfield: Give Gregory a go
Leeds loose forward Kevin Sinfield tells BBC Sport Online that Mike Gregory would be his pick for the job of coaching Lancashire in this summer's Origin Series.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a pleasure to play under Ian Millward.

No-one steers a club to victory in Super League, the Challenge Cup and the World Club Championship without being a bit special.

But I would put Mike Gregory in charge of Lancashire for the Origin games against Yorkshire.

Gregory: Getting a good grounding at Wigan
I played under Mike when I represented the Great Britain Academy side and I thought he was outstanding.

He has a great deal to offer and I don't know why a Super League side has not asked him to be their coach.

He certainly knows his stuff and is getting a good grounding under Stuart Raper at Wigan.

Mike has talked about doing the Lancashire job with Denis Betts. They would make a great coaching team.

And having two Lancashire lads in charge would be great for the county.

Another man I've played under in the past is Steve McCormack, the coach of Salford.

He was boss of the Lancashire Academy side when we beat Yorkshire and Cumbria to win the county title.

Steve deserves a break from the doubters - and he should get it now
Kevin Sinfield

There has been a lot of speculation about his future following Salford's winless start to the season.

But over the Easter period his team have come up with two smashing victories which will have gone a long way to silencing the critics.

From a personal point of view, I hope that saves him from getting the chop.

People forget that Steve is a young bloke who has done very well for himself to get a first-team job at just 28.

There is pressure on any coach whatever their age. Lose a couple of games and they soon start talking about the sack.

But to begin speculating so early in the season cannot be right or good for the players.

Steve deserves a break from the doubters - and he should get it now.
