Carroll gets Aussie call-up
Brisbane centre Tonie Carroll
Carroll is on the verge of playing for his second international team
Former Leeds centre Tonie Carroll has been named in Australia's training squad for the Tri-Nations Series.

Carroll, who last played international rugby for New Zealand in 2000, qualifies for both countries.

Brent Tate, Shane Webcke and Darren Lockyer, Shaun Berrigan and Petero Civoneciva also received a call-up.

Australia are adding players once they are no longer needed for club duties, with the squad to be finalised after the NRL Grand Final on 3 October.

Melbourne Storm pair Scott Hill and Billy Slater also moved up although Slater will have to overcome a long-standing groin injury.

Last week, Australia brought four St George Illawarra players - Trent Barrett, Matt Cooper, Shaun Timmins and Jason Ryles - into the fold.

Brett Kimmorley has returned to favour with the Australia selectors, and Nathan Hindmarsh, Danny Buderus, Matt Gidley and Ben Kennedy are in the reckoning for a place in the opening Test against New Zealand.

But Dragons prop Luke Bailey, who was in the Australia side that won this year's Anzac Test, has been left out.
