Kapil Dev: A career in pictures
Kapil Dev, pictured bowling to Ian Botham in 1981, made his debut against Pakistan in 1978
Armed with a devastating outswinger, Kapil took a then-world record 434 Test wickets, 219 on slow Indian tracks
Kapil's finest moment was leading India to victory against the West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final
The 43-run victory against a formidable West Indies side was a massive boost for Indian cricket
Kapil was a catalyst for the emergence of new talent like Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammed Azharuddin
A talented all-rounder, the "Haryana Hurricane" scored 5,248 Test runs and eight centuries
After retiring in 1994, he became India coach in 1999 but resigned a year later after match-fixing allegations
In 2002 Wisden name him Indian Cricketer of the Century ahead of Sunil Gavaskar and Tendulkar
