Top seeds Kentucky crash out
The upsets kept coming in US college basketball's NCAA tournament as overall top seed Kentucky fell 76-75 to unfancied Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday.

The Kentucky Wildcats were tipped by many to win the event, nicknamed "March Madness", but they missed out on thanks to a 17-footer by UAB hero Mo Finley with 12 seconds left to play.

The upset leaves the tournament without two of its top seeds and two of its number twos heading into the "Sweet 16" stage.

Second seed Mississippi State completed a bad day for Southeastern Conference teams by losing to Xavier 89-74.

Lionel Chalmers scored a career-high 31 points for the underdogs and Dedrick Finn had 22 points, including an incredible long-range effort from well inside his own half.

Perennial contenders Duke and small college St Joseph's are the two highest-ranked teams as the competition moves into its second week.
