In Nashville, Midwest favourites Kentucky beat Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI)
95-64 to extend their undefeated streak to 24 games.
In South region action, Texas beat number
16 seeds North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs 82-61.

In other early action in the East region, it was number two
Wake Forest Demon Deacons and third-seeded Syracuse Orangemen
who advanced.
The Demon Deacons edged East Tennessee State 76-73, while the
the Orangemen turned it on late to down Manahattan 76-65.
Freshman sensation Carmelo Anthony, a potential top-three
pick in this year's NBA draft, scored 17 points.
In other afternoon games, beginning with the East region,
sixth seeds Oklahoma State defeated Pennsylvania 77-63
and 10th-ranked Auburn surprised number seven St. Joseph's 65-63
in overtime.
In the afternoon's other South game, ninth-ranked Purdue beat number eight LSU 80-56 after being tied at 32-32 at half time.
Also in the Midwest, number nine Utah, converting on
15-of-18 free throws, edged number eight seed Oregon 60-58.
