Paul Hunter has said he will begin his cancer treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old will undergo a CT scan and will soon begin a three-month course of chemotherapy.
"I would like to thank all the medical staff at St James's Hospital for their professionalism," said Hunter, in a statement issued through World Snooker.
"I've been touched by the support I've received and the friendship of my fellow snooker players."
Hunter played in the first round, losing 10-8 in a battling display against Michael Holt.
The three-time Masters champion received a rapturous reception from the Crucible crowd, and has also had messages of support from snooker fans all over the world.
