A former policeman, Saeed Bin Suroor took out his first training licence in 1994.
The following year he took over as the main trainer for Godolphin, which had been set up by Sheikh Mohammed a year previously.
Godolphin's unique set-up means the trainer spends half the year at the Al Quoz stables in Dubai and then comes over to Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket for the turf Flat season.
Their policy of racing their thoroughbreds all over the world means that Bin Suroor does not actually have that many winners in the UK.
But such is the quality of his string that he has been champion trainer three times and has won each Classic at least once.
The nature and size of Godolphin means the outfit has a full-time racing manager, Simon Crisford, and it is he rather than the trainer who is often the public face of the organisation.
As well as his achievements with Godolphin, Bin Suroor also trained the unbeaten Lammtara for Sheikh Mohammed's nephew, Saeed Maktoum Al Maktoum.
