It was only after a stewards' inquiry that Sulamani was announced the winner having finishing in second place behind Storming Home.

Gary Stevens had sent Storming Home into the lead with over a furlong left to travel and the ex-Barry Hills runner looked to have the £375,000 first prize in safe keeping.

But he suddenly jinked to his right in the shadow of the post hampering Paolini and Brian Meehan's Kaieteur.

Godolphin's Sulamani was not affected and finished wide and fast to claim second.

The win gave Godolphin their 100th triumph at the highest level.

Stevens was unseated from Storming Home after the finishing line and the horse was demoted to fourth after the stewards' inquiry.

Stevens was conscious but was stetchered off the course and his condition was not known.

The David Flores-ridden Sulamani produced a remarkable run in the straight having been forced wide off the final turn and only just failed to catch Storming Home.

Sulamani, who overcame a last-minute injury scare having suffered a slight stone bruise on Thursday, was dropping back to 10 furlongs in the Group One contest and Flores said afterwards: "He's a mile and a half horse and I'm pretty happy with the way he ran."

Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager, added: "We are a big international stable and the whole essence of Godolphin is to travel the world and to compete in the top international races.

"It's fabulous to win here but we would have preferred that it hadn't happened this way but at the end of the day we were nominated the winner."
