Beard will face a Slovakian shooter in the first round of the knockout stages

Redruth's Mick Beard was ranked 11th in the opening round of the individual recurve archery for standing athletes at the Paralympics in Beijing.
Beard shot 597, 34 points off the top-ranked Italian Mario Esposito.
It means he will have to shoot in the first round of the knockout section where he will face Slovakia's Vladimir Majercak on Wednesday.
If he wins that match he will face Mongolia's sixth-ranked Baatarjav Dambadondog in the last 16.
