Brighton Cougars have until Thursday night to get their application in for a franchise for next season’s BBL Championship.
The community club has no professional team yet, but officials have spent the weekend considering the move.
Their BBL bid leader Sean Jupp told BBC Southern Counties Radio: “It’s a huge step. We are serious about it but have to be sure we can get the finance”.
Fellow Sussex club Worthing Thunder may also make a franchise bid.
