Bonds was also dogged by links to the Balco scandal in 2005

Barry Bonds has agreed in principle to play for the USA in the inaugural World Baseball Classic in March.
"There are still a few details to be worked out, but he has agreed to play." said his agent Jeff Borris.
Bonds holds MLB's single-season home run record with 73 in 2001 and ranks third behind Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list.
He played in only 14 games for San Francisco in 2005 because of three knee operations and a bacterial infection.
The 16-team World Baseball Classic will feature major league players in international competition for the first time.
The countries taking part are: the USA, Cuba, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Puerto Rico, Panama, Mexico, Canada, the Netherlands, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Australia, Italy and South Africa.
