Swallow cleared for Athens
Jodie Swallow
Jodie Swallow's place in the British triathlon team for the Athens Olympics has been confirmed.

The 23-year-old was selected in May even though she had not competed in a triathlon this year due to injury.

Her hopes of proving her fitness had been dented when she crashed out during the bicycle ride in the Triathlon World Cup event in Salford last month.

But the selectors decided not to call up Andrea Whitcombe as reserve, despite her win in Sunday's London triathlon.

Whitcombe challenged her initial omission from the three-woman team in May via the Sports Dispute Resolution Panel.

But, following a fitness review of all three female triathletes and talks involving the British Triathlon Association, British Olympic Association and International Olympic Committee, Swallow has been given the green light.

Swallow was picked largely on the strength of her World Cup form last season, which included a silver medal at the Olympic test event in Athens.

The other two female triathletes in the team are Michelle Dillon and Julie Dibens.
