British fencer Richard Kruse has said he is confident of medal success at this summer's Beijing Olympics.

The 24-year-old from Finchley finished eighth at the 2004 Olympics in Athens - the best performance by a British fencer for 40 years.

Kruse told BBC London 94.9: "Without being big-headed, when I'm at the top of my game I can take out the best in the world.

"I hope to qualify in the next two months, but I must remain injury free."

Kruse, who won a silver medal at the European Championships in 2006, trains at The Landsdowne Club in Mayfair.
