McBride signs for Derry
John Paul McBride cost St Johnstone £200,000 from Celtic
John Paul McBride has signed for Derry City

Former Celtic and St Johnstone midfielder John Paul McBride has signed for League of Ireland club Derry City.

McBride joins the Candystripes having played most recently with Danish club Aarhus.

He is unable to join the Derry players who leave on Thursday for a pre-season training camp in Lanzarote.

But the 24-year-old is expected to make his League of Ireland debut for Kevin Mahon's men when the new summer season kicks-off in April.

Derry's first game is at home to Longford Town on Thursday 10 April.

St Johnstone spent £200,000 to get McBride from Celtic in 2000.

At that time he was regarded as one of Scotland's brightest prospects but McBride then had injury problems.

Derry not did not have to pay a fee for McBride as he was a non-contract player in Denmark.
