Harte lifts merit award

Errigal Ciaran forward Mark Harte has won November's Bass Merit Award.

Harte has been an integral part of the Tyrone club side's charge to the Ulster title this season.

A Belfast-based third-year Arts student, Harte's accuracy and scoring instinct has been prevalent in Errigal Ciaran's great run.

He scored a goal and seven points in that classic comeback to draw against Crossmaglen in the initial fixture and added more scores in the subsequent replays.

However, his performance against champions Ballinderry in the semi-final was a brilliant all-round performance.

''I'm shocked at getting this award,'' said Harte, son of Errigal's coach Mickey.

''There were so many good performances by other players during the month, and I'm a little surprised.''

The 23-year-old St Mary's under-graduate has now three Tyrone senior football medal with Errigal Ciaran and an Ulster championship gong.
