Giants in the clear
Sean Selmser scores against Eric Raymond of Rouen
The Belfast Giants WILL be playing in the Continental Cup finals in Lugano after an objection by Austrian club EHC Linz was thrown out.
Linz claimed that the Giants short-term signing Sean Selmser was ineligible for the semi-finals tournament held recently at the Odyssey.
However, the International Ice Hockey Federation found that the Giants had no case to answer and will be competing in Switzerland. The IIHF has informed all involved parties that they found no evidence of any speculative transfers by the Giants. However, Linz still have the right to appeal the IIHF decision.
Selmser was on target for the Belfast Giants in each of three semi-final games, but has since transferred to Austrian club VSV Villach.
