The Honda Pons team will not be taking part in the 2006 MotoGP championship after failing to secure a new sponsorship deal.
"After a successful partnership of three years, the team failed to renew its agreement with title partner Camel," said a statement from the team.
"Subsequent difficulties in securing sufficient financial support have prompted the decision to pull out."
The team says it hopes to return to competition in 2007.
The decision of the team, managed by Spain's former double 250cc world champion Sito Pons, comes after 25 successive seasons in motorcycling's top class.
It means Spain's Carlos Checa, who had been scheduled to compete for the team, has been left without a ride for the new season.
