Jaguar pin hopes on new man
Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine in action in Malaysia
Jaguar have been plagued by aerodynamic problems
Jaguar have appointed Renault's head of aerodynamics in a bid to put an end to the problems plaguing their new Formula One R3 team.

The capture of Ben Agathangelou, who will join Jaguar on 1 May, coincides with the British team opening their new wind tunnel facility in the Oxfordshire countryside.

Jaguar have had to struggle until now with a wind tunnel in California.

Jaguar's new R3 car has been plagued by aerodynamic problems in early races. The team has managed only three points in total so far this season.

To extract any true performance improvement these days takes experienced aerodynamicists
Managing director Guenther Steiner

In the first two Formula One races - in Australia and Malaysia - poor results were blamed on poor grip and downforce.

Number one driver Eddie Irvine has already suggested reverting to last season's R2 car for the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo on Sunday.

But the team are committed to continuing with the new R3 car in Brazil, although the old R2 car may make an appearance in Imola, on 14 April.

Jaguar's managing and technical director, Guenther Steiner, is confident that Agathangelou's arrival, along with the new tunnel, will iron out any early teething problems.

"We have never really lacked in any other aspect of our racing package apart from aerodynamic efficiency," Steiner said.

"There is little disparity between the teams these days when it comes to engines, tyres and other major components.

"To extract any true performance improvement these days takes experienced aerodynamicists."
