Menendez shocks Mirela
Mirela Manjani-Tzelili of Greece
Tzelili just could not get near her Cuban rival
Osleidys Menendez of Cuba won the women's javelin Monday at the World Championships easily defeating defending champion Mirela Manjani-Tzelili of Greece.

Another Cuban Sonia Bisset won the bronze.

Menendez, the world record holder, threw 69.53 metres on her third attempt, a distance none of the others could get close to.

Manjani-Tzelili throw of 65.78 brought her the silver, while Bisset managed a throw of 64.69 to take third.

Menendez adds the gold to the bronze she got at last year's Sydney Olympics before becoming the first Cuban woman to set a world record in Crete earlier this day.

At the age of just 21, she seems set for a great future, having been the world junior champion at the age of just 19.
