The thirsty dozen
BBC Sport Online lines up the main contenders to defending champion Tiger Woods at this year's US Open.
No 1: Vijay Singh is closest to Woods in scoring terms and has been up there at his last nine events
No 2: Ernie Els has two US Open trophies to his name but erratic form this year means he's still without a win
No 3: Phil Mickelson is the world number two but needs to cut out the jitters which cost him at the Masters
No 4: David Duval has missed the cut twice this season but produced it when it counted for second at Augusta
No 5: Davis Love III won at Pebble Beach in February but has not figured in the top five in his last six tries
No 6: The only man other than Tiger with two tour wins this year, Joe Durant got 32 birdies in one event
No 7: Odds are shortening on Sergio Garcia, who is fresh from his Colonial triumph where he shot a final 63
No 8: It is 12 years since Mark Calcavecchia won the British Open and he has returned to winning ways
No 9: Formerly Europe's top golfer, Lee Westwood's form has deserted him though still ranked world No 6
No 10: It is 12 months since Colin Montgomerie last won. He missed the cut at Augusta
No 11: Darren Clarke has won in Japan and South Africa but needs to step up. Came 24th at the Masters
No 12: A definite outsider, Thomas Bjorn is still one of the few to have overhauled Woods on the final day
