Armstrong takes yellow
 Laurent Jalabert leads the pack for most of the day, only to be caught by Armstrong near the end
 Pre-race leader Francois Simons (left) looks on before the start, whilst the Columbian contingent think the hills are a doddle
 While Armstrong and Jalabert battle up front, the pack were negotiating the tricky Mente pass
 As the pack approaches the final climb, Armstrong breaks away and makes his move
 On the final climb, Armstrong saw off the threat of Jalabert and Kivilev to emerge victorious
 Lance Armstrong sports the yellow jersey and a big smile
