Fallon loses Derby ban appeal
Kieren Fallon rides Golan to victory in the 2,000 Guineas
Kieren Fallon rides Golan to victory in the 2,000 Guineas
Kieren Fallon will not ride in the Vodafone Derby on Saturday after losing his appeal against a three-day ban at a Jockey Club disciplinary committee meeting.

The former champion jockey was set to ride favourite Golan, but Pat Eddery will now get the plum ride.

Fallon received the suspension at Ayr last Thursday.

The local stewards found him guilty of irresponsible riding of a minor nature on third-placed Distinctive Dream in the RS Design Handicap and banned him for 9, 10, 11 June.

Fallon had hoped to get the ban either overturned or be considered to have committed a lesser offence worthy of a one or two-day ban.

That would have left him free to ride on any day when a Group One race was run in Britain.

  Fallon factfile
Born: Crusheen, Co Clare, February 22, 1965
Champion jockey: 1997, 1998, 1999
200 winners in a year: 1997, 1998, 1999
Derby winner: Oath 1999
1000 Guineas winners: Sleepytime 1997, Wince 1999
Oaks winners: Reams of Verse 1997, Ramruma 1999
Banned for six months from 30 Sept 1994 to 29 March 1995 for violent or improper conduct after a clash with Stuart Webster.
Banned for seven days at Thirsk in June 1994 for hitting fellow jockey Chris Rutter with his whip.

A Jockey Club disciplinary committee statement said: "The committee found that Distinctive Dream had interfered with Tancred Times in the final furlong.

"The committee attributed the cause of the interference to Fallon and this was due to irresponsible riding.

"The Committee did not consider that Fallon's explanation that when a slight gap appeared the gelding went left unexpectedly and of its own accord, was borne out by the evidence.

"It therefore dismissed his appeal and suspended him from riding for three days from Saturday 9 June to Monday 11 June inclusive."

Fallon was clearly disappointed, and on leaving Portman Square said: "How do you think I feel? I just want to forget about it.."

The former champion jockey was due to partner long-time favourite Golan in the premier Classic. Pat Eddery will now replace Fallon on board the Sagitta 2000 Guineas winner.
