Montgomerie claims the World Matchplay in 1999, the year he won the last of his seven consecutive Order of Merits
But after several testing years and the break-up of his marriage, Monty bounces back at the 2004 Ryder Cup
The veteran Scot proceeds to hole the winning putt as Europe beat the United States 18½-9½ at Oakland Hills
It marks an emotional return to form for Monty, who finally looks to be hitting his best form again
But Monty is soon under fire again after replacing his ball incorrectly at the 2005 Indonesian Open
However, he rebounds once more and pushes Tiger Woods all the way before finishing second at The Open in July
In October, he wins his first tournament for 19 months when he claims the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews
And he confirms his new, relaxed state of mind by posing with some of his most devoted fans after the Dunhill win
Montgomerie's return to form also sees him finish third at the WGC American Express in California
And Monty rounds off a fine season by winning the European Order of Merit for a record eighth time
