Rory McIlroy a career-high seventh in world rankings

McIlroy rues poor second round

Rory McIlroy has moved up to a career-high seventh in the latest world rankings after his share of third place at the Open.

McIlroy started the week ninth in the standings but has jumped above Luke Donald and Ian Poulter with Paul Casey also improving from 10th to eighth.

US Open champion Graeme McDowell remains 11th but Padraig Harrington drops two slots to 17th.

Darren Clarke is 102nd while Gareth Maybin is 127th.

Open champion Louis Oosthuizen is up to 15th in the rankings, a jump of 39 places, after his stunning triumph at St Andrews.
