Record round gives Els win

Ernie Els fired a record round on his way to a stunning 6&5 victory over Colin Montgomerie.
The Open champion was 12 under par in the morning session - the best single round in the event - as he took a four-hole lead at the halfway point.
Montgomerie, who was an impressive seven under himself in the morning, pulled a hole back at the 19th. But Els won the 21st and then eagled the 22nd to claim a five-hole lead, which put him firmly on course for victory. "It all happened out there for me, my putter really worked well, I hit good iron shots and hit my three wood really good. I can't complain," said Els. "Scoring 60 against one of the world's best players is a great feeling." |
