Campbell too good for Woosnam
Campbell's exploits against Faldo did not affect him
Michael Campbell proved too good for holder Ian Woosnam as he won their second round encounter by 3&2.
Campbell was not short of stamina after ending the hopes of two-times champion Nick Faldo earlier in the morning when he won their marathon play-off battle.
Woosnam hauled himself level during the afternoon with three birdies before a bogey at the 11th proved costly. Campbell produced an eagle at the 12th and a birdie at the 14th as he pulled away in the final hole. "I said to Woosie on the 1st tee that I'm sick of this 1st hole already - I've played it five times," joked Campbell afterwards. "It's been a long couple of days and I'm very tired but it's gone well and I am comfortable with my fitness." |
