Blues Ladies continue cup success

Everton Ladies
Everton were victorious after two days of competition in Manchester

Everton Ladies beat Galway Ladies 1-0 to lift the Umbro International Cup for the third time in four years in Manchester over the weekend.

Fara Williams scored the decisive goal in a victory overshadowed by multiple injuries to striker Jody Handley.

The England international was taken to hospital with a broken leg and dislocated ankle.

Handley will now miss England's Euro 2009 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Spain.

In addition it is feared she could miss a large part of the Blue's domestic campaign.

Liverpool Ladies also won some silverware after beating Manchester City 3-1 on penalties to win the Fairgame Trophy Plate.

The tournament was new Reds boss Robbie Johnson's first look at his side since he was appointed to the job on July 15.
