Spurs recall goalkeeper Alnwick

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has recalled goalkeeper Ben Alnwick from a loan spell with League One strugglers Carlisle United.

Alnwick, 21, made six appearances for the Cumbrians in his month-long stay and returns as cover for goalkeepers Heurelho Gomes and Cesar Sanchez.

The England under-21 international was signed from Sunderland for £900,000 in January 2007.

However the Prudhoe-born stopper is still to make his Spurs debut.

Alnwick's recall follows the news on Wednesday that the club had parted company with goalkeeping coach Hans Leitert.

Redknapp, who took over from former Seville boss Juande Ramos in October, has maintained that he will remain faithful to current first-choice goalkeeper Gomes, despite a string of errors.

"He's our number one so he's got to do the job - we're relying on him heavily," he said.

"I believe in him and we have to believe in him."
