Potters reveal price of promotion

Stoke were promoted after finishing second in the Championship

Stoke have revealed they lost more than £4m in last season's successful push for promotion to the Premier League.

The club's annual accounts, which will be presented to shareholders on Thursday, also revealed the club has an overall debt of £2.314m.

Chairman Peter Coates told BBC Radio Stoke: "£4m is a lot of money, but compared with a lot of other clubs I think we've done reasonably well.

"It's always a gamble but ours paid off and it was well worth it."

Meanwhile the Potters have announced that they will offer free travel to all supporters wanting to attend the away fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, 20 December.

"It's a thank you really, because our supporters have been terrific, and have played such a big part of getting us off to a pretty reasonable start to the season," said Coates.
