Stoke chairman Peter Coates says the Potters still have a lot of work to do in the transfer market before the start of the Premier League season.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I would say we need to bring in at least five players to give us a strong squad.
"We've got a number of targets and hope some of them will drop for us. We will keep working until they do."
Dave Kitson is the only summer recruit so far but the club have agreed a fee for Suderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop.
