Buckley has left by mutual consent after failing to revive the club's fortunes since taking over at Spotland in May 2003.
Rochdale are just five points clear of the Third Division drop zone and have lose eight of their last 10 league matches.
"It is hoped a new man will be in place as early as Wednesday," said a statement on the club's website.
