Rochdale player-manager Paul Simpson has failed in his attempt to sign Leeds defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff on loan.
The centre-half impressed during a month at Spotland earlier in the season and Simpson was keen on bringing him back.
But Leeds are unwilling to let the 20-year-old Australian leave until their injury situation improves.
Simpson told his club's official website: "I have enquired about bringing Shane to the club but there are a few injury problems at Leeds, which means that deal cannot take place."
