Preston centre-half Youl Mawene has agreed a new deal which will keep him at Deepdale until 2010.
The 28-year-old, who missed all of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, also has the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.
Boss Paul Simpson said: "I know what a good player he can be and I'm delighted that he has agreed to stay.
"He is a leader and the sort of character encorages others and having him fit and available is real bonus."
