Oxford United have recalled striker Jack Midson a day early from his loan spell at Southend, after the Shrimpers' clash with Crewe was postponed.

The 27-year-old is now available for the U's League Two home game with Macclesfield on Tuesday.

"Oxford told me that even though I was going on loan I'm still in their plans," he told Southend's website.

"My aim is to go back now and force my way back into the manager's plans but I wouldn't be against another loan."

The former Histon forward, who joined Southend at the start of November, added: "I'm hopeful things can still work out at Oxford and I've not changed my opinion about the club.

Even though Oxford have recalled Jack we could still extend his loan if it was right for everyone

"It's the manager's decision and it's out of my hands."

Meanwhile Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock confirmed that he would be interested in taking Midson on loan again in January.

"Even though Oxford have recalled Jack we could still extend his loan if it was right for everyone," he said.

"It was agreed that the loan would end after our game against Crewe as Oxford understandably didn't want him to play against them on New Year's Day."

Midson scored both goals in Southend's last League Two match, a 2-0 win at Cheltenham on 14 December.
