Murray steps down as U's captain

Adam Murray is stepping down as Oxford United captain, claiming the role has had a negative impact on his own form.

The 26-year-old midfielder took over the captain's armband in the summer, when he replaced Barry Quinn, but the club must now decide on his successor.

Murray said: "I feel very proud to have been asked to captain the side, but I feel it is best if I hand on the role."

U's boss Darren Patterson praised Murray for what he described as an "honest and brave" decision.
