Morecambe's wrangle with Carlisle over a fee for striker Danny Carlton has caused the cancellation of the pre-season friendly between the clubs.
Carlton, 23, agreed a two-year deal at Carlisle after scoring in the Conference play-off final in May.
A tribunal may now be needed to determine the level of compensation that Morecambe are entitled to.
"It's a shame Carlisle decided to pull out," Shrimps vice-chairman Graham Hodgson told Morecambe's website:
"The transfer is ongoing but we didn't see it would have had any bearing on the relationship between the clubs."
