Andy Hessenthaler was "absolutely overwhelmed" to learn that he had been voted as Gillingham's greatest ever player in a BBC Radio Kent poll.
The veteran midfielder received around 1,000 votes to pip Birmingham manager Steve Bruce into second place.
"It's a fantastic honour, especially with all the others who've played for this club," Hessenthaler said.
"There are some big players who've played here, and I can't thank the fans enough," he told the club website.
Midfielder Paul Smith, who was eighth, is the only other current Priestfield player to feature in the top 20 besides former player-manager Hessenthaler.
