The England Under 20 international joins on a month's loan, subject to Football League ratification.
He made his first Premiership start for Saints in October 2004 and spent the latter part of the 2004/05 season on loan at Plymouth Argyle.
The striker featured in the Pilgrims' 1-0 defeat at Pride Park in March, where he gave the Derby defence a torrid time.
