Savage, who made 18 appearances at Reading, was taken on trial at the Ricoh Arena one month ago.
The 23-year-old played in three reserve games but has not featured in a first-team fixture for Coventry.
Savage also enjoyed loan spells at League Two sides Bury and Wycombe before he was released by the Royals at the end of last season.
